| Richard
started judo at Riverside Judo Club in Lancaster back in about 1986,
training regularly under Sensei's Pat and Dawn Byrne and later at
the Lancaster University Judo Club. Whilst studying for his first
degree in Manchester during his first and second years, Richard trained
at the university club contributing to the winning the Christie Cup.
During his industrial year which was partly based around Gatwick, Richard trained with Sensei Mick Leigh at Kin Ryu Judo Club in Crawley visiting several other clubs in the period. On moving to Farnborough to commence his working |

life, Richard joined Frimley Budokan training under Sensei Richard Dove and Sensei Chris Wilkins at Oaska Judo Club to reach first Kyu and obtain his club coach certificate. Now regularly training with Sensei Sarah Goodall, Richard achieved his first Dan in May 2005. |
